As of March 27, the railroad is adding 34 new weekday trains to its New Haven Line, which services New York City, Stamford and New Haven.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Metro-North Railroad is increasing weekday service on its New Haven Line next month, the company announced Tuesday.

Effective Sunday, March 27, the number of trains running on weekdays will increase from 244 to 278, with additional trains operated between New York City's Grand Central Terminal, Stamford and New Haven.

In total, the company said it will restore 66 weekday trains on its three East of Hudson lines — New Haven, Harlem and Hudson — bringing its weekday service to 89 percent of pre-pandemic levels, the company said in a news release.

Among Metro-North's restored routes are express trains that reduce trip times by up to 13 minutes and have additional seating capacity, the company said.

The "Yankee Clipper" trains that provide direct service to Yankees/E 153rd St. Station for all New York Yankees home games will return to the East of Hudson lines as well, Metro-North said.

"As more riders return to traditional peak periods, Metro-North is improving the attractiveness of its weekday service," Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi said. "We have been listening to our customers and the message is clear — they want more trains and seating capacity as well as faster trips. This is exactly what our latest service increase provides."

Metro-North last changed its schedule in August 2021, at which point service had increased to 82 percent of pre-pandemic levels, the company said.
